BUILDING INSPECTOR

The Town of Newport is seeking qualified professional applicants to fulfill level-II class inspections of residential and commercial construction and reconstruction to enforce State codes for buildings. Additionally, the enforcement of town ordinances such as lot setbacks, sidewalks, sign regulations, nuisance ordinances, and flood prevention are serviced by this position. Work includes conducting plan review and advising on code issues, making scheduled field inspections to enforce building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes; issuing correction notices, notes of violations and stop-work orders; and issuing certificates of compliance and certificates of occupancy. Work also includes responding to complaints and observing potential code compliance issues in areas such as dilapidated and abandoned structures, nuisance violations, lot setbacks, and other zoning issues, sign violations, and flood prevention issues.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – PLANNING & INSPECTIONS

The Town of Newport is seeking qualified and experienced local/municipal government applicants to fulfill a wide variety of complex administrative and program duties, as well as office management functions in support of Planning, Zoning, Building Inspections and Code Enforcement operations.  Work requires that the employee independently handles certain administrative and technical functions that support town staff, the Planning Board as well as the Board of Adjustment.  A full position description further defining this opportunity can be viewed here

Full-time Police Officer and Part-time Police Officer

The Newport Police Department is currently accepting applications for full-time police officer and part-time police officer positions.

 

The Newport Police Department embraces the concept of community policing, while providing police services to include traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, criminal investigations, and special events.  The Department serves a community of approximately 4,800 residents and is conveniently located between Morehead City on the Crystal Coast and the City of Havelock, home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.

 

Applicants with previous law enforcement experience, advanced education, or advanced training in criminal justice or related field experience preferred.  Applicants must pass a comprehensive background investigation, must possess a NC driver's license at the time of appointment, and meet the minimum standards required for certification as a criminal justice officer as oulined by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Standards Commission.
