Fire Department

The Newport Fire Department was founded by citizens of the town in 1947.  The department currently serves a seventy five square mile district with approximately 15,000 residents.  Volunteer emergency medical services were added in 1983.  We currently have eighteen paid employees, nine of which are full time and those include a paid Fire Chief and Assistant Chief of EMS.  We also rely heavily on our volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians of all levels.  Together, our full time, part time, and volunteer staff provide a wealth of services to the citizens of the Town of Newport and surrounding areas.  Today, our firefighters and EMTs not only provide fire suppression, but also advanced life support, patient transport, natural and man-made disaster preparedness and response, hazardous material response, rescue, public education, fire prevention, hydrant maintenance, and extrication of entrapped victims.

If you would like a volunteer application, feel free to stop in and visit Newport Fire Department Station 1 at 125 Howard Boulevard.  If you would like an employment application, you can download one HERE or pick one up at the Newport Town Hall.  If you have any questions, please call us at 252-223-4510 and our knowledgeable staff will be happy to assist you.
